Airsoft Machine Guns

You’ve probably seen them on TV. Those huge machine guns that blast Rambo’s or the Terminator’s enemies to kingdom come. How do film producers make those war scenes look so realistic? The answer is simple: airsoft machine guns.

Are you a shooter? A hunter? Perhaps a military man or a sniper-in-training? Or maybe you’re an airsoft gamer or a BB gun enthusiast? If you are any of the above mentioned, then perhaps you already know what airsoft machine guns are. But for the ordinary person who has never held a gun – fake or real – in his or her life, an in-depth explanation needs to be given. 

So, what exactly is an airsoft machine gun?

Technically, an airsoft gun is a “toy gun” that looks amazingly (and quite alarmingly!) real. The main difference is that instead of real bullets, airsoft guns use BB pellets that are harmless in the sense that they cannot kill. There are different versions and models of airsoft guns, but they can be divided into three main categories: air, electric and gas. All airsoft guns weigh no more than five pounds, which make easy them to maneuver and use.

Airsoft guns actually originated in Japan. The country-wide ban on the private ownership of firearms spurred inventors and gun aficionados to create “toy guns” that fired plastic pellets instead. These harmless guns almost immediately gained popularity in the nearby countries of Taiwan, China, Korea and the Philippines – countries that had a ban on private firearms as well. It was not long until the airsoft wave reached U.S. shores.

But, what can you use them for?

It actually depends on the type of model that you buy. You can buy a low-powered airsoft gun for airsoft gaming, for example. Airsoft as a game is very much like paint ball, sans the paint. A lot of kids nowadays engage in this sport for exercise and recreation. Movie producers also use airsoft guns for their realistic portrayals of war or mob scenes.

Higher-powered models, however, are usually used for military training. Some airsoft machine guns are made to be very similar to their real-life counter parts in weight, fire and recoil that people in the military find them helpful in training their new recruits. This way, they can stage their battle plans and attacks as realistically as they can – with no one getting hurt.

If you’re thinking about buying an airsoft gun for sporting or gaming purposes, make sure you buy a low-powered one. If you’re not going to be a military man, then you have no reason to buy something high-powered. These things can be dangerous if not handled carefully!

Also, keep in mind that though airsoft guns were made to be harmless, this doesn’t mean that it cannot do damage to people or animals. Buy protective gear like goggles, face masks, helmets. Also, find a place in which to safely store your airsoft guns. And make sure you keep your airsoft machine guns out of reach of children. �
